Out of School…
- SCOTLAND’S deputy First Minister Jim Wallace MSP was a surprise visitor to Merkinch Primary on the first day of the new session. Along with local MSP John Farquhar Munro, local councillor Peter Corbett, Margaret Davidson who chairs the education committee and Hugh Fraser of the education department, Mr Wallace was met by members of the School Council - Ryan Watt, Carol Berry and Sean Ross, all of P7 and Liam Ross P4. The party then toured the school speaking to staff and pupils. “It was a very pleasant visit,” head teacher Mrs Sheena Morrison said afterwards. “Everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves.”

In order to further expand the pupil support facilities at Merkinch Primary the head’s former office and the reception area have been radically re-designed. Work has been going on over the summer and should be completed soon.

As from 16th September - and not before, Mrs Morrison stresses - all pupils will start classes at 9am and not the staggered start for younger ones as at present. All other times remain the same.
