Organisers of the Highlands and Islands Alliance are inviting people who might be interested in forming a new community based political force to get in touch. The Alliance is the name adopted by a group of Highland based community activists who are considering whether to field candidates in the Highlands and Islands for the first Scottish parliament elections. We want to make sure:

• The distinctive voice of Highlands and Islands experience is heard.
• Independent minded MSP’s are elected - not just those selected by party machines.
• People with a track record of practical problem solving become MSP’s.
• The relationship between communities and their MSP’s is dynamic and empowering.

The new parliament contains representatives of all the social groups once marginalised and ignored at Westminster.

The Alliance will be holding a series of meetings across the Highlands and Islands during the Summer to develop ideas and gauge support for this project. If anyone would like to know more call:
